Easter Egg Office 2010 Game

I work for M80 (a social media marketing firm) and we recently began helping Microsoft get the word out about Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 via the non-Microsoft branded microsite www.allurebays.com. Immediately you'll realize that this is not your everyday campaign. Easter stationery. Write your letter on this Easter themed stationery template, featuring a comical bunny relaxing on green grass under a cherry tree, and an Easter egg on its head; includes one note per page. Probably not according to MS, but I just happend to read this article last night. It might provide an 'unofficial' way of doing it: Uncover uber Easter eggs by combining Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010. Things got exciting in 1997 and procrastination became an even easier skill to practice thanks to three Easter Eggs designed for game enthusiasts and time wasters Worldwide. Excel contained a hidden flight simulator for curious minds, whereas Word 97 Pinball was a global hit amongst Office users. An Easter egg that displays the names of all the volcanoes in the United States is found in the '3Dtext' screensaver on all versions of Microsoft Windows including it prior to Windows XP. Windows 2000 and XP have an undocumented texture in the pipes (sspipes.scr) screensaver that makes the pipes red and white similar to candy canes.

Saw this post on the Microsoft Excel 2010 Blog and at first I thought WOW have they brought back easter eggs in Microsoft Office! :p Well it wasn’t an Easter Egg but still cool.

Easter Egg Office 2010 Game

It’s official, Office 2010 is out! To celebrate, we’ve created two games that are playable in Excel for you to download.

  • Missile Command
  • Tower Defense

To play, you’ll need –

  • Download games here
  • To install Excel 2010, hot off the press last week. You can get a free trial here. The games use features that are new to Excel 2010, so they won’t work in older versions.

Want to learn about all the new features in Microsoft Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010? Microsoft has launched a fictional research and development company, Allure Bay Corp., and the fake company’s website is chock full of Easter eggs to demonstrate the new features of Microsoft’s latest software releases. Some of the Easter eggs will lead to more of these unconventional and entertaining videos, where you’ll see the software in action as the loveable — if odd — employees of Allure Bay Corp. use it. As you discover Easter eggs, more areas of the site will be revealed, as well as additional information about Microsoft’s newest products.

Some of the Easter eggs are a little obvious, like a banner that will randomly pop up proclaiming you the one millionth visitor, while others will take some ingenuity to find. Try searching for SOS — in Morse code. They can’t make them all too easy, can they?!

If simply searching for those Easter eggs isn’t enough, maybe a little competition will entice you. When you register, you’ll be added to a leaderboard that tracks how many Easter eggs you’ve found. If you get stuck, you can find clues via the Allure Bay Corp. Twitter feed that is updated regularly.

Not sure where to begin? The video below should start you down the right path to discovering those hidden treasures, and get you moving up that leaderboard.
